Fitting scaledecks laser cut deck for Heller Victory

The deck set from scaledecks.com

Note the planking pattern

3 decks

ultra thin

Dry fit,,wow fits like a glove, this is good.

mix pva glue with a little water

And start coating the deck

Try to get the coat even with no bare spots or lumps

lay the deck on and press down using white tissue

remove any bubbles

i packed the deck with bits of card to give me an even surface for heavy books

and on go the books for about 30 minuites

take the books away and again check for bubbles, pressing any out from the middle of the deck towards the edges

when dry trim the edge of the deck with sandpaper

place one side of the deck in the hull groove and using thin evergreen sheet as a shoe horn, gently slide the other side into position and,,,,,

bingo,its in and done

how easy was that

Great fit

That be wood there captain

broadside

1 deck done.i like it but what do you think?

Links

I am going to mention  three outstanding places that have helped me with this build and they are as follows,,,,,,

www.pete-coleman.com

This is a forum where this build is  logged in detail and i have to say i would be lost without the help from all the members there.
If you are building a period ship this is the place to be.
A big thank you to all members there and a special thank you to Bob for help with parts.
And finally a big thank you to Pete coleman and Maurice wilcox the moderators of this fine website.

I ordered these decks and John at scaledecks helped me with all my questions.Thank you John.

build part 1

Ok here we go,half the hull painted

This part was broken in the kit and the bit was missing from the box so,,,

I re built it,part made from old spue, carved, sanded,no filler used.

The repair looks good so on we go

Using some soft wood i place spacers round the gun ports to add depth

and  line the lot using thin evergreen
Dry fit of stern plate and galleries

See,it looks ok

So lets paint some detail

I made up the lower deck cannons and painted them

I made this simple jig to aid building

and painted

and used a simple rig as it will not be seen.

I added some rather crude built scratch detail to this deck but ended up taking it out because again it can not be seen when all decks are fitted

The thicker lined gun ports

moving along

Cannons fitted

Painted up the resin entrance port .

another dry fit of decks.

Build part 2

Removing heller name plate and re cutting plank lines

Plume of feathers cut off and pe crown added

Name plate template

pe name added

some additional parts

Stern and galleries done plus tools used

dry fit Dafi resin entrance port

looks ok to me so,,,

we cut off the heller steps

fill in any digs n dents

add door panels made from thin evergreen

paint door frame

fix the canopy

add the resin steps

done but further touch up and painting will be needed

A little detail added just for something to look at

On to the pe Rigols,First, cut off the plastic ones

add the pe rigols using pva glue so you can get position.Done

Decks dry fit

Starting to look like a ship

Note the steps in a line up to deck, real thing is not like this but this is my spin on things or as i think they would have been and thats not what we see on Victory today.

Opened up some doors

Deck detail painted. There will be wooden deck laminate added to this by scaledecks.com

Rudder hinges replaced to close gap

Time to weather the hull copper

This was done using Childs pastel set green/blue/white.scrape into a dust, mix the dust to colour and add a little water then brush on.
complete by adding layers and finish with some white for a salt line.
